International Women’s Day

Wednesday 8th March 2023

Feminism isn’t about making women strong. Women are already strong. It’s about changing the way the world perceives that strength.

– G.D Anderson

Here at Osborne Thomas, a company made up of mostly women, are no stranger to the impact women can make and today we are celebrating International Women’s day. We are recognising the incredible achievements of women and encouraging others to advocate for gender equality

Celebrating women’s achievements and increasing visibility, while calling out inequality, is key.

IWD started in 1908 when over 15,000 women marched through New York City demanding shorter working hours, better pay and the right to vote. Now, this date is globally recognised and is a date to celebrate how far women have come in society, in politics and in economics.

We have seen huge breakthroughs in equity across the world, however there is more that can be done. In the past year, women in many countries such as Afghanistan, Iran, Ukraine and the US have been fighting for their rights amid war, violence and policy changes in their respective countries.

This year, the campaign theme is #EmbraceEquity which focuses on creating a more inclusive world, challenging stereotypes and addressing discrimination.

If you’d like to celebrate and participate in International Womens Day this year, there are plenty of ways to do so! Why not try:

  • Attending a virtual event: https://www.internationalwomensday.com/EventSearch
  • Sit down with colleagues and friends and discuss the women who inspire you.
  • There are fantastic books and podcasts that champion inclusivity and celebrate women, reach out to us for our favourite recommendations!

From all at Osborne Thomas, we wish you a happy international Women’s day!
