Salary:  £54,366 - £67,623 + JNC payment to the value of £2,724 pa

The Environment, Neighbourhoods and Growth Department is responsible for a wide range of highly visible services that include environment, leisure, climate change, planning, regeneration and communities.  This role manages a team which is responsible for managing performance, business planning and support across these teams.

To deliver this role, the post holder will work with a wide range of colleagues including senior staff and members from across the organisations.  They will build formal and informal internal working relationships and networks across council departments and external partners, and ensure directors and senior managers are properly supported and briefed on developments a wide range of business critical and strategic matters.

The service will be managed in accordance with the council’s strategic business management requirements, including financial management, business planning, human resource issues, the use of performance management frameworks, legal compliance with current legislation including health and safety, human rights and equality issues.

Purpose of the job

To lead performance and delivery in this large public facing department which is providing much valued front line services to residents and businesses in Southwark.

To contribute to the strategic direction and leadership of the department by building and leading teams to manage the business of the department, supporting excellent standards of governance and to include all aspects of decision making, briefing of cabinet, managing risk, business planning, corporate liaison, financial processes, customer relations, information governance and management, business continuity, performance, and staff engagement.

To support business improvement through effective performance management and data analytics, and manage excellent customer service standards and the information flow through processes such as FOI, members’ enquiries and complaints and use this to help proactively drive service improvement, delivering a model that enables a direct response from the team to these enquiries whenever possible.
